Linguistic research occupies itself with structure of the German language. Contents include the sound and writing system as well as the syntax and semantic level. Special focus is on teaching the ability to analyze concrete language materials (sentences, texts, utterances).

Literary science offers theories and methods of analysis and interpretation of German language texts from the early Medieval period to the present. Examples are introduced in differing cultural and sociohistorical connections.
