German

German focuses on the study of linguistic and literary topics. The program comprises three areas: Linguistics, medieval studies, and modern German literature (NDL).

Linguistics examines the structure of the German language – from the sound and writing system to sentence structure and the level of meaning – and teaches analytical skills for working with linguistic material. Medieval Studies deals with literature from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Period, while modern German literature (NDL) focuses on texts from the Early Modern Period to the present. Both work with different theories and methods for analyzing German-language texts in their cultural and historical contexts.
