History Teaching Qualification
History is educational, entertaining, and an indispensable part of general knowledge. The study of history examines the development of human society across time and space. It derives its insights primarily from working with historical (text) sources.
A teaching qualification provides you with comprehensive training for teaching history at the secondary school level. This includes mastering the approaches and methods of historical research, engaging with historical issues from different periods (Antiquity, Middle Ages, Modern Era), and the ability to convey this knowledge appropriately to students of various age groups.
Good to know
- Comprehensive: Across eight departments – Ancient History, Medieval History, Early Modern History, Modern History, Regional History, Business History, History of Science and Technology, and the History of Technology’s Impact – we offer the full spectrum of historical scholarship at the highest level, covering all historical periods.
- Regional focus: Regional history occupies an important place in school teaching, public perception, and historical research. One of the two professorships in Baden-Württemberg focusing on the regional history of Southwest Germany, with a broad historical scope, is based in Stuttgart. As the seat of the state government, the State Archives, the State Library, the House of Baden-Württemberg History, and the Commission for Historical Regional Studies, the city is also an ideal location for diverse academic collaboration in this field.
- Interdisciplinary: Science and technology play a major role in our everyday lives. It is therefore only natural that the Historical Institute has embraced the University of Stuttgart’s long-standing technical tradition and leverages its vast resources: Uniquely, two dedicated departments at our institute focus on the history of science and technology.
- Buddy or mentoring program: The International Office offers two support programs to international students who are about to start their studies at the University of Stuttgart. Click here to find out more!
