Exchange students (non-degree)

Incoming students from our partner universities throughout the world can attend the University of Stuttgart under our Erasmus+ and overseas exchange programs.

Every semester the University of Stuttgart welcomes exchange students from all over the world, who can profit from a wide range of study programs in engineering, humanities, social science and economics.

Before you apply, please find out which of our exchange programs you qualify for.

Erasmus + program

Erasmus incoming students are students who participate in the Erasmus+ exchange program with one of our partner universities in the European Union and Turkey (excluding Erasmus Mundus) and who come to study for one or two semesters at the University of Stuttgart. To qualify for our Erasmus+ program, your home university must first have nominated you to participate in the program. A German proficiency on an intermediate level is also required.

If your university is not a partner university of the University of Stuttgart, you may apply as a non-degree student (freemover).

Overseas program

Incoming students from overseas are students who participate in an exchange program with one of our partner universities from overseas (effectively any non-European Union country) and who come to study for one or two semesters at the University of Stuttgart. To qualify for our overseas program, your home university must first have nominated you to participate in the program. A basic knowledge of the German language is also required.

Erasmus Mundus and European Master programs

The University of Stuttgart participates in different Erasmus Mundus and European Master programs. Students within these programs can spend one to three semesters at the University of Stuttgart. To qualify for a study period at the University of Stuttgart you need to be nominated by the coordinating university of your Erasmus Mundus and European Master program and you must also seek admission at the University of Stuttgart.
