Excellence Initiative University of Stuttgart

titelOn basis of the first phase of the Excellence Initiative by the German federal and state governments the "Simulation Technology" Cluster of Excellence (SimTech) and the "Advanced Manufacturing Engineering" Graduate School (GSaME) are funded at University of Stuttgart.

For the second phase of the Excellence Initiative University of Stuttgart submitted draft proposals for three Graduate Schools, two Clusters of Excellence and one institutional strategy (Zukunftskonzept) on 1 September 2010 at Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and Wissenschaftsrat. Intensive preparation went into these proposals to which over 100 experts from the most diverse disciplines made a contribution from time to time. Like in the first phase of the Excellence Initiative, there is a multistage selection procedure: Which projects are able to submit a full proposal will be decided by mid-March 2011. The projects that will be actually funded will be made known in June 2012. Renewal proposals for the successful projects SimTech and GSaME of the first phase will also be submitted on 1 September 2011.

After a very rigourous internal and external evaluation processes topics were very accurately defined; topics that are future-oriented and on which the university is already excellently positioned today thanks to its academics, as well as present research institutes. With the institutional strategy the University of Stuttgart will open up a whole new dimension of cooperation ventures with its partners in business, the economy and society, which corresponds to the highest international standard and, regardless of the competition, is trend-setting for the future of the university.
