6/9/1811 Hermann Christian Fehling is born in Lübeck
1817 - 1827 Attends Civic School and Grammar School
1827 Begins training in a pharmacy in Lübeck
1832 Moves to a pharmacy in Bremen belonging to his master craftsman's brother
1835 - 1837 Studies Sciences, mainly Chemistry, in Heidelberg
1837 - 1838 Conducts research under Liebig in Gießen
1838 - 1839 Conducts research in Paris
7/1/1839 Applies for the post of Senior Teacher of Chemistry and Technology at the Vocational School in Stuttgart
9/23/1839 Temporarily appointed to the post of Senior Teacher, begins teaching
3/10/1841 Fehling is permanently appointed to the post
5/20/1844 Marries Sophie Cleß, daughter of the Stuttgart grammar school professor August v. Cleß
1841 - 1844 Extensive research and publications on organic chemistry
1848 Central Office for Commerce and Trade is established, Fehling is appointed to the internal committee and the Patent Commission
1848 Publishes his work "Quantitative Determination of Sugar in Urine" ("Fehling's test")
1850 Fehling's first mineral water analysis (Bopser spring)
1851 Visits the first World Exhibition in London
July 1854 Suffers a serious haemorrhage during a trip to Munich, thus drastically reduces his work in the laboratory and regularly visits high-altitude health resorts
9/24/1854 Appointed Knight of the Order of the Württemberg Crown (personal nobility)
1855 Takes over editing the "Handbook of Pure and Applied Chemistry" (completed 1864); retires from laboratory work
1855 - 1856 Moves into the new chemistry laboratory with living quarters
1869 Begins work on the "New Handbook of Chemistry" (published 1874-1930)
1870 Appointed member of the Medical College
1875 Moves to a further new institute building
5/11/1883 Retires due to ill health
4/1/1884 Finishes working at the Central Office for Commerce and Trade and the Medical College
7/1/1885 Hermann Christian Fehling dies in Stuttgart
