After completing his studies Leonhard first went into industry. At the Siemens-Schuckert works in Berlin he first worked in project management and development, and then spent eight years travelling throughout the world installing large-scale technical systems.
Beside his varied work at Siemens-Schuckert he first wrote his PhD thesis entitled "The independent three-phase asynchronous generator with separately excited three-phase exciter" and later his post-doctoral thesis entitled "Asynchronous and synchronous operation of the general double driven three-phase motor".
