Where there's a will, there's a place at university

Adolf Leonhard's time at grammar school ended prematurely in 1917 when he took an emergency school leaving exam and was conscripted into the army. After a period spent as a prisoner of war, Leonhard began to study electrical engineering in Munich in 1920, which he completed in only seven semesters despite constantly rising inflation and his incomplete schooling.
