SUMMARY:Eva Illouz: Stuttgart Future Speech
DESCRIPTION:The Israeli sociologist and author Eva Illouz is regarded as one of the most important contemporary intellectuals. Following the Hamas attack on Israel, she has publicly addressed the situation in Israel and Palestine in a series of interviews and writings, offering a strong critique of the Netanyahu government. At the same time, she affirms Israel's right to exist and condemns the escalating Anti-Semitism in society. In her books, Illouz thoughtfully explores questions such as why love causes pain, why it fades, and how capitalism shapes our relationships and emotions. On February 4th, she will deliver the third "Stuttgart Future Speech," following the previous speakers Daniel Kehlmann and Liao Yiwu.\nAfter her one-hour lecture, philosopher and journalist Catherine Newmark will engage in a conversation with Eva Illouz.\nFree Admission\nPersonal details: Illouz is a professor of sociology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and director of studies at the Centre européen de sociologie et de science politique (CSE-EHESS) in Paris. Her work has earned numerous accolades, including the Anneliese-Meier Research Prize from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Frank-Schirrmacher Prize.\nThe "Stuttgart Future Speech" is a collaboration between Literaturhaus Stuttgart, the International Center for Cultural and Technological Studies at the University of Stuttgart (IZKT), the Institut français, and the Evangelische Bildungszentrum Hospitalhof Stuttgart, with support from the City of Stuttgart and the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung.
