Launch of the Open Research Platform

Event ”New paths to innovation“ on the topic of Open Innovation

Companies are exposed to a growing innovation pressure as a result of shortened product cycles. In order to counteract this, they are increasingly relying on the active strategic use of the external world such as, e.g. their customers, suppliers and research partners to increse their own innovation potential. Experience shows that companies bring more innovation to the market through opening their innovation processes – key word Open Innovation – in a more efficient way. The joint event ”New paths to innovation - how companies benefit from open innovation processes“ from the University of Stuttgart and Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart GmbH (WRS) on 19th September offers the opportunity to provide information on current trends on the topic of Open Innovation and on successful examples from business practice.

Several workshops offer the possibility in the framework of the event to acquire in-depth knowledge on the topic of Open Innovation. Organisers fall back on current results which were developed in the framework of the EU project EURIS in the region of Stuttgart with partners from the economy and other European regions. An example for this is the web-based Open Research Platform. It increases the transparency of the research activities at the University of Stuttgart externally and at the same times enables the companies a targeted search for technical solutions to their specific issues.

“Together with several company and institute representatives we have ascertained the demands on the Open Research Platform from the requirements of the participants in a pilot phase running just under one year: where can you find the competence, who can help? The relevant contact persons must be found quickly and in a targeted way with a few clicks in order to trigger joint research and development projects through the platform“, explained Bastian Strinz, Research Department at the University of Stuttgart. ”The idea for the economic region of Stuttgart now is to actively deal with these developments and to use the potentials arising from these for the regional economy, in particular for the small and medium-sized companies.“

The event ”New paths to information“ is taking place on 19th September 2012 from 9 am until 7 pm at the University of Stuttgart, Campus Vaihingen, auditorium V 7.02 (ground floor), Pfaffenwaldring 7, 70569 Stuttgart. Online registration at: wrs.region-stuttgart.de/innovation/anmeldung
