Lecture with discussion:
“Teacher personality versus teacher training?”
Prof. Dr. Johannes Mayr (Klagenfurt)
The concept of a “teacher personality” is often regarded somewhat skeptically, because it emphasizes a relatively strict set of characteristics and, at first glance, appears to contradict competence-oriented teacher training. This problematic will be discussed using theoretical considerations, empirical findings and practical examples. The lecture will also focus on defining the personality approach and uncovering the incentives for developing an effective teacher training strategy that emphasizes the individual personalities of student teachers and teachers.
