From environmental technologies to forestry
The conference program covers a wide range of subjects, for example from questions of renewable energies, regional development and environmental technology to water, sewage, soil, waste up to the topics of climate and sustainable forestry. Prof. Uwe Menzel and Dr. Daniela Neuffer from ISWA will be giving an introductory lecture in the session „Bilateral Projects“ on the cooperation projects with Brazil over the past ten years. They will also be elaborating on the German-Brazilian master study course EDUBRAS-MAUI (English abbreviation for communal and industrial environmental protection), which they developed with other scientists at ISWA and introduced in spring 2008 together with the Federal University of Paraná and the Training Centre of the Industrial Association in Curitiba. „This study course has already been evaluated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as a ,showpiece project with model character’ and awarded the rating of ,excellent’“, according to Menzel. An industrial exhibition will also be taking place in the framework of the conference as well as a project and cooperation forum with the cooperation of Baden-Württemberg International (Stuttgart), which is to bring together scientists from both countries to plan joint projects.
Since 2003 symposiums on current environmental questions have been taking place alternatively in Germany and Brazil. Scientists and representatives from the economy from both countries discuss sustainable developments including new environmental technologies over several days. The current venues were Tübingen in 2003, Santa Maria and Santa Cruz do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul in 2005, Freiburg in 2007 as well as Curitiba, Paraná in 2009.
