On January 8, 2018, Prof. Mathur visited the University of Stuttgart to meet Prof. Ressel in his new function as TU9 president and discuss future projects. The emerging Indian Institutes of Technology – 8 in total that were founded between 2008 and 2009 – and the TU9 seek to establish a more intensive cooperation, within the framework of a collaborative research network. With the meeting in Stuttgart, a new memorandum of understanding and a new cooperation agreement now apply involving the two Indian Institutes of Technology in Indore and Mandi, which will coordinate all eight new IITs with the TU9.
A research cooperation between the TU9 and the IIT Mandi has been in place since 2013. This is supported by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and coordinated by the University of Stuttgart’s International Center.
Following a successful first phase, multilateral research projects at the IITs in Indore and Mandi and the TU9 universities will commence this year. Furthermore, an exchange of ideas with other emerging IITs is also planned. To this end, the universities sent the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development and the BMBF an application to extend the network.
A workshop to network the participating scientists and to prepare the research applications will take place at the University of Stuttgart in May 2018.
