Professor Dr. Marion Büttgen, University of Hohenheim, Department of Corporate Management
Our consumer behaviour is changing: owning commodities is losing importance and alternative consumer behaviours, that don’t involve transfer of ownership, are becoming more relevant. New forms of service provision that make short-term use of specific goods are a new and innovative business model. These come under the umbrella term Sharing Economy or “Access-Based Services”.
This trend is particularly prevalent in the mobility sector, but despite an ever-increasing number of registered users, most of these business models have not, so far, enjoyed economic success. Many customers use the services on offer only sporadically, so that it is not yet clear whether such business models can actually be successful or not. It is also not yet clear whether carsharing actually reduces traffic, and whether it might contribute to developments in the electromobility sector. This lecture will be focusing on these questions.
Entry is free of charge, registration is not necessary.
