In the late 1950 and into the 1960s, Max Bense developed a new aesthetic based on information theory. A fundamental part of this aesthetic is the discovery that if a class of artworks were to be measured analytically using set criteria, then further works could also be created that would also correspond with the analytical measurements. This generative aesthetic unites analysis and the production of artwork. The use of technology is a fundamental aspect of this relationship. How is the relationship between man and computers analyzed and developed in the field of information theory? How are modern developments in generative art and literature represented and what is the relationship between historical constellations and the modern problems of the digital age?
Lecture by Dr Claus-Michael Schlesinger, University of Stuttgart, Institute of Literary Studies – Department of Digital Humanities.
This event is organized by the Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache in cooperation with the University Library Stuttgart.
