"Nothing is worthy of man as man unless he can pursue it with passionate devotion." Max Weber

Max Weber, who described the Modern period as a scientifically disenchanted era, died 100 years ago. To kick off the new lecture series "writing in disenchanted times”, the poet and theologist Henning Ziebritzki – who is also director of Weber’s publishing house – will be heading a discussion about the passion of thought. That the sociologist was in constant contact with scientists, philosophers, poets and artists is testament to the open mind of an intellectual – a seeker – who writes to establish some clarity over the social and intellectual situation. The impact this had on our current understanding becomes clear when Henning Ziebritzki’s thoughts on Ernst Jünger are associated with the biographical essay "Wir modernen Menschen – Über Max Weber" (Wallstein 2020), written by the series’ moderator Prof. Matthias Bormuth. The most recent title published by Henning Ziebritzki appeared in the volume "Vogelwerk. Gedichte" (Wallstein 2019). In 2020, he was awarded the Peter-Huchel-Preis for this piece

This is a cooperative project organized by the Literaturhaus Stuttgart, Hospitalhof Stuttgart and the University of Stuttgart’s IZKT.
