„This ist the best of me. I saw and knew: this, if anything of mine, is worth your memory.“
These words were written by Edward Elgar at the end of the score of „The Dream of Gerontius“. And he was right. With this work, Elgar created a masterpiece of Romantic choral symphonism, distinguished by profound religious depth and masterful dramatic design. Based on the poem of the same name by John Henry Newman, „The Dream of Gerontius“ traces the journey of a soul after death to its encounter with God, a musical vision filled with hope, passion, and deeply moving beauty. While the work has long been firmly established in the concert repertoire in England, it is only rarely performed in Germany. This makes the upcoming performance at the Liederhalle Stuttgart a particularly special occasion not to be missed.
Under the direction of University Music Director Jakob Brenner, the Academic Choir and the Academic Orchestra of the University of Stuttgart will perform this monumental work with more than 200 performers and an outstanding soloist cast: Kai Kluge (tenor) as Gerontius, Olivia Johnson (mezzo-soprano) as the Angel, and Jasper Leever (bass) as the Priest and the Angel of the Agony. All three are members of the ensemble of the Stuttgart State Opera.
Tickets are available via Easy Ticket and at the box office.
