The University of Stuttgart has been ranked 3rd in Germany and 171st worldwide in the second edition of the THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings. "Interdisciplinarity at the University of Stuttgart is not just a buzzword, but a lived reality. For decades, our researchers have achieved outstanding results by tackling complex issues together and across disciplinary boundaries – fully in line with the 'Stuttgart Way.' For this reason, I am delighted that we have once again achieved a top position in the national comparison in the THE Interdisciplinary Science Ranking," emphasizes Prof. Manfred Bischoff, Vice Rector for Research and Sustainable Development.

The University of Stuttgart achieved its highest score in the Inputs category, securing first place in the national ranking. This evaluates the proportion of research income in the natural sciences dedicated to interdisciplinary scientific research, as well as the amount of industry funding per academic staff member.

About the THE Interdisciplinary Ranking
More than 1,000 universities participated in the second Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR). 911 universities from 94 countries were included in the ranking. The THE Interdisciplinary Ranking, launched in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows, measures universities’ contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science. The interdisciplinary performance of universities is measured using eleven indicators across the three areas or phases in the lifecycle of research projects: 19% Input (funding); 16% Process (success metrics, facilities, administrative support, and promotion); and 65% Output (publications, research quality, and reputation). For this year’s ranking, 174.9 million citations and 18.7 million publications were taken into account.
