Replacement physics building: construction site is fenced off

October 2, 2025

Starting Monday, October 6, the first measures will taken for the replacement building of the Department of Physics on the Vaihingen campus: The construction zone adjacent to Allmandring 3 will be fenced off, and parking spaces in that area will no longer be available.

Please pay attention to posted no-parking signs directly on the construction site and, beginning in November, on nearby streets as well. Alternative parking is available at the northern end of Pfaffenwaldring.

Project overview: Replacement building for the Department of Physics

The replacement building will be a state-of-the-art research and teaching facility covering approximately 18,500 square meters. It is designed to foster a highly integrated and collaborative research environment, housing:

  • nine experimental and six theoretical institutes
  • flexible laboratory spaces to support interdisciplinary research
  • enhanced teaching facilities located close to research areas

The building will be constructed to the highest energy efficiency standards and will feature solar panels on the roof and façade. The project also supports campus densification goals and will allow the university to phase out previously leased office spaces downtown.

The replacement building is part of a larger, multi-year campus improvement initiative that includes the renovation of the Natural Sciences Center (NWZ I and II). The building will enable the Physics Department to relocate from NWZ II, which will then undergo comprehensive refurbishment.

We understand that construction may cause some disruptions and appreciate your patience during this period. We encourage employees to consider public transportation options or participate in the “Stuttgart fährt mit” carpool program whenever possible.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
