Beware of fake job offers

October 14, 2025

Unfortunately, fraudulent job postings are currently being circulated under the name of our university. Please stay alert: watch out for suspicious sender addresses, unusual payment requests, or unfamiliar communication channels — and do not respond to such emails.

We have received reports of fraudulent emails sent from “jobs@universitat-stuttgart.de.” The senders pose as representatives of the University of Stuttgart and promote fake job offers to gain trust. Currently, English language teachers (ESL/EFL) appear to be the main targets, though other professional groups could also be affected. These emails often state that the advertised position is not published on the university’s website to “avoid an overflow of applications.” This is intended to make the offer seem exclusive and legitimate. In reality, recipients are misled through deceptive methods into disclosing personal or financial information — and, in some cases, even transferring money.

Please note that the University of Stuttgart’s official recruiting process never involves any fees, financial transactions, or requests for sensitive personal information, nor does it require advance payments for training, housing, or equipment.

Emails sent from “jobs@universitat-stuttgart.de” are not legitimate. Do not respond to such messages, share personal information, or make any payments. Instead, ignore them, mark them as spam, and block the sender.

To help protect yourself, please take the following steps:

  • Take and save screenshots of all communication related to the fake job offer — including the job posting, emails, chats, and any attached documents.
  • Keep copies of any contracts or other relevant documents.
  • If you’ve already transferred money or shared personal or financial information, contact your bank immediately and report the incident to your local police.

All official job postings from the University of Stuttgart are published on Stellenwerk Stuttgart. Genuine email addresses and URLs will always include uni-stuttgart.de – confirming that they truly belong to us.

Please stay alert and, if in doubt, refer to our official channels.
