Simulation Technology using computers makes it possible to answer questions safely, dependably, and economically that cannot be answered using conventional experiments. For example: how does a drug used to treat lung cancer disperse? What happens in a combustion chamber at 1,200°C? How does a space shuttle land? How do pollutants flow underground? In all these situations, simulations help to make dependable predictions under reproducible conditions. The great variety of applications extend from advances in medicine to the development of prototypes in vehicle manufacturing to planning flows to optimization of new environmental technologies.
In addition to lectures on simulation technologies the studies (in German) include a very large area composed of individually-chosen electives. This elective area requires approval by your personal advisor, so that the specialization, but also the interdisciplinary scope from the Bachelor's program can be continued
Other key elements are two research papers in which the first independent scientific work is done in preparation for the Master’s thesis. Because the study program is affiliated with the Stuttgart Center for Simulation Science (SC SimTech), research and Master’s thesis work normally are strongly related to research in progress.
