Computational Linguistics
From intelligent information systems and search engines to reliable automatic translation and concise social media summaries – much of this depends on the specialized methods of computational linguistics (CL).
Computational linguistics deals, among other things, with questions such as: How must language be represented so that machines can process – or even ‘understand’ – it? And how can machines generate language that sounds as ‘natural’ as possible?
This interdisciplinary study program is ideal for anyone who wants to combine a passion for language and communication with an interest in mathematics and computer science. Graduates can expect a dynamic professional field with excellent career opportunities –whether in research or industry, at the interface of language and technology.

Computational linguistics as a minor subject
If you aspire to a career in the cutting-edge field of language technology, we recommend selecting Computational Linguistics as a minor in a Bachelor of Arts study program. It provides fundamental approaches and methods for the (semi-)automatic processing of human language and is the prefect addition to your major in the humanities or social sciences. While the minor comprises fewer credits, it offers essential mathematical and computational foundations. Find out in advance about possible subject combinations in the combined Bachelor of Arts program.
