Housing
Procurement by the Studentenwerk
The Studentenwerk Stuttgart offers to students at low costs more than 6,400 hostel places in 32 student hostels. The hostels are all situated close to the colleges. There are single rooms in communities sharing one corridor, single flats and flat-sharing communities with two to ten persons.
Studying parents with children have priority at the Studentenwerk, i.e. single parents and couples with children can get two-room flats. In the immediate vicinity of the hostels in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Stuttgart city centre and at the Stuttgart Academy of Arts and in Ludwigsburg the children can attend day care centres or nurseries owned by the Studentenwerk.

Certificate of eligibility (Wohnberechtigungsschein)
For some low priced flats, in particular those of some cooperative building associations, certificates of eligibility (Wohnberechtigungsscheine) are required. They also provide the opportunity to get a low price flat in the city. It must be noted, though, that the waiting lists, in particular for one-room flats, are very long.
