Universität Stuttgart – Innovation is our Tradition - spoken text
In the heart of Europe, in South Germany, lies Baden-Württemberg. An innovative high-tech region with a worldwide reputation. Stuttgart, the state capital. This city is home to an educational institution that is among Europe’s very best. Universität Stuttgart.
Innovation is our tradition.
1829. The beginning of the industrial age. The “United Secondary and Trade School” is established, later to become Universität Stuttgart. The university rapidly takes on great social and economic importance.
In the last century the city centre quickly becomes too cramped for the rapidly expanding university. In the mid-1950s construction of the campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen begins. A modern research environment with perfect infrastructure is created; the new buildings fulfil the highest functional and aesthetic requirements.
Today Universität Stuttgart is an internationally renowned cutting-edge centre of learning, with over 140 institutes in 10 faculties and around 19,000 students. It is founded upon three main fields: Humanities & Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Engineering. Its central focus is on the disciplines of natural science and technology. Its core competence lies in an interdisciplinary networking of all research activities.
Students from all over the world. Around 5,000 students at Universität Stuttgart come from abroad.
The close networking of research and teaching allows the university both to offer students excellent training for jobs in the state sector, business and academia, and to be a superlative site for theoretical and practically-oriented research. And the word has got around.
Every year around 1,800 graduates leave the university with an academic degree. Universität Stuttgart’s scientific training institutions and its alumni programme ensure an ongoing transfer of expertise even after graduation.
Our society is undergoing constant change. By offering new study programs, Universität Stuttgart is keeping up with the rapidly changing requirements of the world of work. With its academic profile, based on a wide range of Collaborative Research Centres, Centres of Competence and scientific Priority Programmes, the University meets the challenges posed by globalisation. State-of-the-art research institutions used in an interdisciplinary approach ensure the creative and targeted transfer of technology.
Internationalisation has a long tradition at Universität Stuttgart. It is embedded in a global cooperation network of partner universities.
A centre for knowledge and science, for research and technology, for worldwide expertise. A centre with a past and with a future.
