Equivalence of Foreign Degrees
If you are seeking employment as a research assistant/assistant professor or admittance or registration for a doctoral degree, your foreign degree(s) must be assessed on its equivalence. This equivalence has to be certified by the University of Stuttgart. The Admissions Office for Foreign and EU-Citizens is responsible for examining the formal equivalence.
Determination of the Formal Equivalence of Foreign Degrees
Here are the procedures and the documents that must be submitted:
a) Doctoral degree candidates
Please enclose the following form together with the application for admission as a Doctoral Student, which must be submitted to Ms. Walz (examination office).

b) Persons seeking employment NOT a Doctoral Degree
The application to determine the formal equivalence has to be submitted to the Admissions Office for Foreign and EU-Citizens by your institute via the personnel department. The following documents need to be attached:
- Summary of personal history to date (
pdf) - Copies of all your degrees (e.g. Bachelor’s / Master’s degree) together with transcripts as well as your PhD certificate with verification from the institute that these degrees and documents were presented as originals.
