Degree Seeking Students: Admission Requirements
Admission requirements in general
Foreign students who are not taking part in a special program or who have not been invited as a guest or exchange student by the Universität Stuttgart are required by the University to show proof of sufficient knowledge of German, as well as other school or academic knowledge depending on their country of origin. As a general rule, all the requirements that students have to fulfill in their home country to be admitted to study an academic subject at university also apply in Germany. However, further regulations may apply to different countries of origin.
University admission requirements according to nationality

2. Admission of citizens of so-called ‘convention countries’

Currently, the convention countries are: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgian Republic, Iceland, Israel, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, Norway, the Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey (this only applies to the completion of the 12-year Turkish Lyceum. 3. Admission of citizens of other countries and stateless persons
Depending on the applicant’s citizenship and the country where you gained your university entrance qualification, different admission regulations apply . Please contact the Admissions Office for Foreign Citizens directly, to find out, how to apply correctly.
To qualify for admission to studies you must prove that you hold a higher education entrance qualification with which you can be admitted to higher education in your home country. These secondary school leaving certificates might be a High School Diploma, A-Levels, Bachillerato or similar. If required in your home country, it might be necessary to prove that you have successfully taken a university entrance exam. Furthermore to be able to study in Germany, your school leaving certificate must be recognised as equivalent to the German higher education entrance qualification called Abitur.
You can check which educational certificates obtained outside Germany are required for admission to higher education in Germany by going to the
DAAD Admissions data base.
Citizens of other countries and stateless persons should use the Application Form for Foreign Applicants to apply to the Universität Stuttgart.
