Water Resources Engineering and Management (WAREM) M.Sc. - in English

The water needs of a growing world population and its impact upon the earth and its natural water resources continue to grow. Sustainable water resources development within environmental and social limitations requires both qualified engineers and scientists as well as scientific and professional cooperation on an international scale. The internationally oriented Master of Science Program WAREM has been developed to satisfy these demands.
The program extends over four semesters, consisting of three in-class semesters and one semester (six months) of research and thesis work. Courses cover the following main areas:

  • Groundwater Management and Geohydrology
  • Hydraulic Engineering and River Basin Management
  • Sanitary Engineering and Water Quality Management

The program profits from the University’s excellent research facilities in the water sector, such as a modern hydraulic laboratory, the largest in-situ groundwater remediation installation and the largest prototype waste water treatment plant in Europe. Additionally, Stuttgart and the surrounding area are served by two of the largest long-distance water supply systems in Europe.
The international orientation of WAREM is also reflected in its participation in two double degree programmes - with Chalmers University in Sweden and with the Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia. WAREM students are given the opportunity to spend half of their studies in Stuttgart, and the other half at the partner university in order to receive their double degree.
