PHYSICS M.Sc. - in English
Physics is concerned with problems that range from minute particles to the universe as a whole. Quantitative methods are used to analyze the apparent complexity of the system in which we live. For this reason, the methods and results from this science are often applied to other fields such as Chemistry, Biology or Engineering. This Master of Science program is designed for students who want to study in an international environment and experience a balanced but diverse period of postgraduate studies. It will qualify students to find employment in a wide range of professions not only in universities or research laboratories but also in computer companies, in the field of telecommunications, or with management consultants. The M.Sc. programme PHYSICS is taught entirely in English and takes two years (four semesters) including a one-year research project. It is open for graduate students both from abroad and from Germany. Classes are taught by professors from the Department of Physics at the Universität Stuttgart in cooperation with the Max Planck Institutes of Solid State Research and of Metal Research. A special characteristic of PHYSICS is to offer electives right from the very first semester. This is to enable students to organize their studies in accordance with their own special interests. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be awarded a Master of Science in Physics and will be entitled to continue to study towards a doctoral degree in Physics at a German university without having to fulfil additional academic requirements.
