The study of French deals with the French language and the literature of French-speaking countries. The course comprises the fields of linguistics (composition and function of today's language), literature (medieval till contemporary), language didactics (oral and written use of the language) and cultural studies (present day cultural, political and social issues). The language of study is mostly German. Students must have a fair knowledge of the French language before the beginning of their studies.

Additional Information for State Examination:	Application for next winter semester 2010/11: On 1 September 2010 a new examination regulation for teachers will come into force. The changes concern among other things the possible combinations, the content / curriculum and the study preconditions.
