marc angélil
is living between los angeles and zürich as a practicing architect in both cities and professor of architecture and design at the eth zürich. his research activities deal with the contemporary developments in urban design. major attention is given to the dynamic forces involved in the formation and transformation of a city.

matthias bauer
returned to stuttgart to set up his own practice mba/s architecture.urbanism.landscape in 1998. he worked in paris and collaborated with oma in rotterdam from 1995 to 98 as partner in charge for the breuninger competition and realisation planning among other projects. the former european champion in skateboarding was trained as an architect and urbanist at the university of stuttgart. most recent projects of his office include the competition design for the max-ernst museum in brühl and the realization planning for a 20 ha holiday resort in austria. he is currently teaching at the university of stuttgart.

christophe cornubert
left europe to establish the research and design collaborative push in los angeles in 1999. he collaborated with oma in rotterdam from 1993 to 1998 as partner in charge for design and realization of the educatorium building in utrecht as well as responsible for several other major projects. he studied art and architecture at ucla and is currently teaching at sci-arc. at the biennale in venice 2000 he was awarded a special price.

kees christiaanse
is the head of the institute for urbanism and architecture at the technical university of berlin. he is the always on the road traveller with offices and projects in several european countries who manages to always appear where he’s needed most.

jan ehrenberg
studies architecture and is rooted in the global culture of skateboarding. he also studied management in the netherlands followed by an extended trip mexico to learn how to ride waves. he is currently back in the netherlands pre paring a major surf trip and his graduation as an architect.

bernhard heitele, julius von holst and etienne de vadder
were roommates during their architectural studies at the university of stuttgart. they combined their individual talents and interest for their graduation from the faculty of architecture and urban planning at the university of stuttgart with their labs-studio project “heterurbanity” and the essay “la history”.
/ julius von holst is currently working on first independent projects in stuttgart but hopes to slip in some more international experience working abroad.
/ bernhard heitele recently presented his first short movie about la and
/ etienne de vadder currently works at the office of bottega & erhardt where he contributed to the design and realization of suite 212 bar and dance floor in stuttgart.

grace lau
received her bachelor of art in architectural studies at the university of hong kong in 1997. she moved to california to round up her studies at the sci-arc los angeles with a master of architecture in 2001. having decided to stay in la for the time being she currently works as an architect and learns spanish in preparation for a planned trip to south america in 2002.

karen lohrmann and hugo beschoor plug
teach at the technical university of berlin. together with kees christiaanse they have gone through 3 years of the kcklmhbp style of teaching research and always something else.
/ karen lohrmann was trained as an architect at the rwth aachen and the eth zurich. in 1996 she graduated from the technical university in berlin where most of her inspirations and projects are based. still, her relation to berlin changes like the sky above hamburg. she has left berlin for numerous places and keeps coming back. the research project amore allmostallovereurope that she is about to launch with kees christiaanse and jakob tigges will take this phenomenon even further.... just as her fascination with la’mour when getting lost running through suburbia ...into research.
/ hugo beschoor plug (rotterdam)
graduated from the technical university delft in 1992 and worked with ben van berkel and caroline bos in amsterdam. life moved him via vienna to berlin, where he set up his practice bpvf with isabel von fournier ...and made him leave los angeles too early... the committed soccer-fan tried hard to become a lakers-fan but for the ultimate gentleman a heart beats where it belongs.

chris middleton, timo pape and martin jacobs
study architecture at the technical university of berlin. chris middleton has his roots in the united states and germany. he is the personification of the ultimate mysterious.
/ after los angeles timo pape (munich) travelled via berlin to milano to continue his architectural studies at the politechnico. after some months he left milano for chicago to continue an east berlin western that was sneak previewed in a berlin horizontal baulücke.
/ martin jacobs (berlin) resisted the numerous temptations to leave the city where he was born. he was trained as a carpenter, a talent he uses troughout his professional career, both in and outside the technical university. he is enrolled in the first realisation project of the institute liv colombo.

birte müller and jeanne-francoise fischer
study architecture at the technical university of berlin.
after los angeles birte müller (bonn) made a stop-over-project in berlin and left for rotterdam to work as an apprentice in the office of kees christiaanse.
/ jeanne-francoise fischer (hamburg) left berlin to continue her architectural studies at the eth zürich. their interest in informal structures and gentrification also triggered a previous project at the institute and served as a basis for entertainment material to help them forget berlin subculture.

franz pesch
is head of the städtebau institut at the university of stuttgart since 1996. he established the office pesch+partner in herdecke in 1982 and later a branch office in stuttgart. various research projects and publications focus on the transformation of the european city centers. his latest realizations include…

markus randler
studied at the university of stuttgart and tu delft. he worked at oma in 1999 and graduated back in stuttgart with special distinction in 2001. he currently works at mba/s in stuttgart and plans to do a master degree at columbia university in the near future.

patricia schneider
graduated from the university of stuttgart in 2000. her various stays in los angeles made her go back to live and work. she is currently an architect at graft design in los angeles.

florian scholze
studied computer sciences at the tu munich and architecture at tu dresden. in 1999 he moved to continue his studies at the university of stuttgart and is on the forefront of cad.

michael speaks
is currently graduate program head at sci-arc in los angeles, after teaching at yale, harvard, the berlage institute and columbia university. besides he has published in a wide range of architectural magazines and has been founding editor of polygraph and the senior editor at any magazine.

christina thum
graduated from the university of stuttgart in 2001. her project “network planning” made her an expert in web based planning and democratic participation strategies. she is currently working in stuttgart.

tina weiner and jonas von studnitz
studied, florian karsch still studies architecture at the technical university of berlin.
after having reached her personal aims in a topsport career in gymnastics tina weiner (heidelberg) orientated towards architecture. she graduated from the technical university in berlin in juli 2001.
committed to the digital aspects of architectural presentation florian karsch (bremen) combines both, a unique story-telling and the ultimate image, that is, for once, understood throughout the globe.
for his former room-mate jonas von studnitz travelling to los angeles was like coming home. after graduating from the technical university in berlin he returned as a trained architect to live and work in los angeles.

kazys varnelis
studied architectural history at cornell university, new york, and after working as a computer consultant from 1994-1996, he currently is the coordinator of the history and theory faculty at sci-arc.

wim wenders
has been a director since 1971 and became famous for various road movies such as paris, texas or until the end of the world. he always had a close relationship with los angeles, the result of which can be enjoyed throughout his work, most recently in the million dollar hotel.

stefan werrer
was trained as carpenter in germany for two years before starting his architectural studies at the university of stuttgart in 1994. he studied at the tu delft in 1998 and afterwards worked at schie 2.0 in rotterdam. he graduated in 2001 with his project “andscape” in stuttgart. he currently lives and works in stuttgart trying to remain dutch in swabia.

huai lim zhou
was raised in germany and in singapore, studied in melbourne and returned to germany for a one-year term in 2000 to study at the university of stuttgart. observing german cities from the perspective of the ultimate tourist who is at once in- and outsider. she currently continues her studies in melbourne, australia.
