Master INFOTECH - Overview

General Description
INFOTECH (short for INFOrmation TECHnology) is
  • an international, interdisciplinary (post) graduate Master study program offered by the
  • Faculty (School) of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the
  • University of Stuttgart,  Stuttgart, Baden-Wuerttemberg, F.R. of Germany with
  • English lectures and English exams for
  • graduate students with a B.Sc. or similar in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Applications or Automation or similar.

 

INFOTECH aims at the interdisciplinary education and training of fundamental methods and scientific skills for development and research in information technology in areas like
  • basic electronic and photonic components
  • computer and communication systems architectures
  • hardware and software design methodologies
  • communication networks
  • multimedia
  • vehicular, traffic and process control systems.

INFOTECH is a very comprehensive and demanding 2-year program with

 

INFOTECH offers a combination of courses from the
  • electrical engineering and
  • computer science field enriched with
  • non-technical courses

 

INFOTECH offers four specializations
  • CEMT Communication Engineering and Media Technology
  • ES Embedded Systems Engineering
  • MO Micro- and Optoelectonics
  • CHSEComputer Hardware/Software Engineering
which can be selected already during the application process but have to latest during the CoIn (Counseling Interview) Meeting.

 

The students will receive a Master of Science degree in Information Technology. The Master degree stands on the same level as other Master Degrees or the previous German Diplom-Ingenieur (Dipl.-Ing.) degree.

 

Conditions for receiving the degree
  • Presentation of Bachelor Degree Certificate
  • Presentation of German Language Certificate (Level A1.1) - we do offer courses for that
  • Presentation of Internship certificate; we can endorse previous work experience, or the Industrial Internship can be done during a break after the 3rd term
  • Successful passing of all required examinations
  • Successful Master Thesis project

 

Tuition Fees
  • Consecutive Master programs like INFOTECH do not charge tuition fees as of summer term 2012 and further by decision of the government of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. Only administrative contribution and contribution to the student's service organization of together app. EUR 116.00 (as of summer 2012) are charged per term/semester.

 

Recognition/Accreditation
  • The INFOTECH program has been approved by the senate of the University, recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Land of Baden-Wuerttemberg and accredited by  ASIIN. It allows to directly enter into doctoral programs at German Universities.

 

Experience with the Program
  • After 9 years of continuous operation with thousands of applicants for 50 seats/year and over 300 graduates the program has undergone a major overhaul in 2009. The current program offers now four (4) majors, has 4 terms (previous 3) and discontinues Prep-Semester and Entrance Tests. Students have been admitted to the new program winter 2009/10 and further. The seat capacity has been increased to 80.
  • Over 80% of the graduates have achieved an overall average of their Master Degree examination of 'Good' or better. Many of our graduates continue their studies in doctoral degree programs (25% or more) in Germany and around the globe.

 

The Host:
  • INFOTECH is one of the many programs offered by the faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (IEI) of the University of Stuttgart.
  • IEI offers today more than 220 lecture courses for 2700 students taught by 31 professors and 270 scientific staff members.
  • All of the INFOTECH Curriculum lecture courses are in English language. Additional courses taught in German language can be added. All courses are jointly attended by students from the INFOTECH Master Program and the German language based othet Master's Programs of IEI.

The Location:
  • The city of Stuttgart, the capital of the Land of  Baden-Wuerttemberg,  is right in the heart of the "Greater Stuttgart Region", one of the most prosperous and innovative regions in Europe.

 

The Academic Year
  • INFOTECH follows the standard two semester (terms) structure:
    • the winter term (October 1 to March 31)
      with courses from mid October to mid February followed by ample time for exam preparation and the exams itself,
    • the summer term (April 1 to September 30)
      with courses from mid April to mid July followed by ample time for exam preparation and the exams itself.
