The final application for admission is a traditional procedure,
i.e. we need a paper-based application with attested documents. To make
life easier for both parties, this step 1 is e-mail based. In this
step 1 we firstly check if your basic academic data (BD, see below)
are in-line with our basic requirements. The admission commission
will then decide, who will be invited to step 2 of the application
procedure. Competition for the step 2 invitations is mainly based on academic performance. You should only
proceed to step 2 if you are invited.
The step 1 Evaluation process needs the following data - besides
others asked for as well:
- Your statement, that the regular study time for your Bachelor is 4 (four) years. Shorter times leads automatically to disqualification (BD) - except German or EU Bachelors
- The Bachelor degree conferred to you. Master degrees do not qualify (BD)
- The Study Field of Your Bachelor (BD)
- The kind of proof for English proficiency, TOEFL, IELTS, Means of Instruction etc. (BD)
- The name of the university which conferred the degree
- Your (C)GPA or equivalent. The requested date of Your Bachelor degree is to make sure, that the GPA is your final one.
- The maximum GPA according to the scale and the pass-level GPA
- Your e-mail address. Please make sure, that the e-mail address is valid over the full evaluation time and that your mail-box accepts further e-mails. If we receive a reject message from the destination mail-box, we stop the process. We are not able to repeat sending e-mails.
For creating the e-mail for step 1 application, three methods are provided:
Method 1 for Step1 Applications
---
This is a HTML based method where You can fill-in fields (some with drop-down boxes for easy use) which will create an e-mail using Your predefined e-mail client.
Method 2 for Step 1 Applications
---
In case You experience difficulties to use the above method one, a Text-File based method can be used. Fill-in the lines using a pure text editor like 'NotePad' (on MS Windows systems, typically go to Start Menu, Accessories) or like 'NEdit' on Linux systems.
Method 3 for Step 1 Applications:
---
Method 3 use an Adobe PDF document. It has an interactive application form part. If an e-mail client is installed on your system, you can send the data as xml attachment to an e-mail by clicking the "submit..." button. The application form can be printed but only saved if you use the Adobe Acrobat (not Reader).
After receiving the e-mail we will send you a confirmation
e-mail. This may take several days. It will include your status for
step 1 qualification. It could be
- Positive 'wait for Step 1 Evaluation results' (shortly after Step1 deadline) meaning, that your application is still in the competition
- Non-Acceptance because of non-fulfillment of basic requirements
- On-Hold because of missing/incomplete/wrong Step 1 data. You will be informed about the kind of data.
- Basic negative judgement of academic performance and data with respect to other applications and/or criteria set by the admission commission for the program year in question. Result: Non-Acceptance. You may have another attempt next year.
Please be reminded, that you have to make sure, the
e-mail has reached us. You can be sure, if you have received our confirm
e-mail. This e-mail will have the subject line "Mail from INFOTECH
Admissions ...", the sender "INFOTECH Office..." and the
body text will start with "This is an official message ...". It
will include the assigned Reference Number. Not confirmed applications or
applications after deadline can not be considered for whatever reasons.
Furthermore, step 1 application is compulsory for non-European applicants for being considered in the admission selection process

a) The data requested in step 1 are requested based on the HDSV ('University Data Protection Law' (Hochschul-Datenschutzverordnung BW). By sending us the application data, you agree that these data are stored in our admission database and processed for the purpose of selecting candidates for step 2 by the admission commission. Selection is required as we have more applications than seats, based on the HVVO. We do not share these data with third parties and the data are only made available to the staff of the admission office and the admission commission. Data of candidates not selected for admission after step 2, are deleted after final termination of the application process, typically at year-end of the program year. You can however, at any time, request these data to be deleted. Write an e-mail to admission.infotech@f05.uni-stuttgart.de and give your reference number, full name and birth date.
b) Step 1 applications are not bound to an electronic application form. In case all of the three methods are not working, a step 2-type application as described in Step 2 can be used for a step 1-type application. Deadline for receipt of the papers remain step 1 deadline and there is no advantage in the step 1 evaluation process by using this method.
