Welcome

on the web pages of the Institute for Geotechnical Engineering of the University of Stuttgart (IGS). As a branch of Civil Engineering Geotechnical Engineering is a special branch in construction engineering. Thus the institute is mainly part of construction engineering at the University of Stuttgart within the Faculty 2: Civil and Environmental Engineering. Based on the basic disciplines soil and rock mechanics, the topics of research and teaching are all use-oriented problems concerning the interaction between subsoil and constructions. In detail this results in work areas such as Earth Works, Foundation Engineering and Rock Engineering, Special Foundation Construction and Tunnelling as well as Geo-Enviromental Engineering.
