   A. M. C. was hired by the Egyptian Exploration Society in 1928 for a project to record the decoration in the temple of King Sethos I at Abydos. Calverley's draughtsmanship was instrumental in allowing an ambitious publication to be realised. In 1929, Broome was hired as Amice M. Calverley's assistant. During eight seasons at the Temple, the two women were responsible for all the paintings and replications, with the help of a small staff of artists. Besides using large photographs to record the reliefs, the artists penciled over lines and inscriptions for a completely accurate rendering. Broome & Calverley also used watercolor paintings to provide color to the reproductions, because only black and white photography was available at the time. 4 volumes with coloured plates were published by the University of Chicago 1933-1958. Cf. also Amice Calverley recordings of Cretan and Egyptian music.
