   M. V. P. was a British officer, from 1879 to 1901 stationed in Port Blair on the Andaman Islands, an archipelago in the Bay of Bengal between India, to the west, and Myanmar. He documented music, language, and ethnography, and later presented a large collection of Andaman artefacts to the British Museum.
