Market turbulences that shatter the economic and industrial system affirm the need for top executives for planning, designing and managing future factory generations. The Graduate School of Excellence for advanced Manufacturing Engineering – GSaME is a central scientific institution of the University of Stuttgart which offers an innovative, co-operative and interdisciplinary doctoral program. The GSaME's unique character is based on the application of the dual education system for post graduates coming from different disciplines to an economically significant area. This principle combines scientific education with research practice at a university institute, at the Fraunhofer Society or within industry. The aim is to complete the promotion in only four years. Supported with a scholarship, the doctoral candidates are able to concentrate on their research area. Besides research practice the doctoral candidate's professional competences and leadership skills are broadened and deepened, practical experience is supplemented by theoretical knowledge.
The GSaME's concept is of high relevance as well as to science and economy. It makes an important contribution to the further development of the area of „Manufacturing Engineering“ on a national and international level and contributes to a paradigm change in the qualification of young academics and managers.
