Submitting A Plant Sample By Mail:

LEAVES: Press them flat between alternate layers of moist and dry paper towels. Put leaves and toweling between two pieces of cardboard and put into a plastic bag. Tie the bag closed. Punch several holes in the bag to allow air movement. Place the wrapped leaves in a box. Use packing material to ensure that the sample won't shift during shipment.

FTA plant saver cards: Young, symptomatic leaves are removed from infected plants and placed on FTA Classic Cards. A 16 cm2 piece of parafilm has to be placed over the plant tissue and the rounded end of a plastic test tube used to apply moderate downward pressure with a slight twisting action until sap penetrated the reverse side of the FTA paper. Dry cards at room temperature overnight. Store in paper bags until shipping.
